Aalto University Archives is responsible for the long-term preservation, digitisation and information service of documents and visual collections born from learning, research and artistic activities at the University.

The archives are open to all researchers. The function of the archive is to preserve the documentation heritage of the University and facilitate its research. The archives at Otaniemi campus comprise Aalto Univeristy, Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) and the University of Art and Design (TaiK) and their predecessor’s collections, in addition to numerous private archives related to the activities of the University.


Visual Resources Centre at Harald Herlin Learning Centre is a service focused on using and producing visual media. The archive’s visual collections can be researched upon request at the VRC service, such as digitial and original student works, photographs, drawings and other objects. The VRC guide contains information on how to find reliable visual material from images databases, how to use them in  dissertations, teaching, reseaarch and artistic activities. The instructions focus on especially on copyright and pronciples of good scientific practice and citations. The guide also helps make use of Creative Commons licensed materials. Training and guidance is also available from the VRC team.
